Cardinals dig out win

Just like pinch-hitter Nick Stavinoha dug out that two-run homer on what could have been the last pitch of the game. It was low enough. Gregg Zaun was preparing to block the pitch, because he thought it was going in the dirt.

Stavinoha dropped his right knee and his whole body started falling toward the plate — he had his entire body weight leaning on the pitch when he made contact, and the conflicting forces pulled him upright and the ball over the left-field fence.

Here’s more about the one that got away.
